Message from the President for New Employees in 2026 (Summary)

Press Release

Takeyuki Takahashi, President, Representative Director, and CEO of MITSUI E&S Co., Ltd., has delivered a message for all new employees. It is summarized below.

Congratulations to all of the new employees on their joining us.
Today marks your first step as working professionals.
At the same time, it is also an important day for the MITSUI E&S Group as we welcome new talent into our organization.
It is often said that companies grow through their people, and our company, with a history spanning more than 100 years, has continued to move forward into the next era by welcoming talented new employees each year.
As President, I am truly pleased to welcome all of you—filled with hope and enthusiasm—as new members of the MITSUI E&S Group.
On behalf of the company, I extend to you a warm and heartfelt welcome.

Since its founding in 1917, MITSUI E&S has supported society for more than a century through the power of engineering.
Beginning with its original shipbuilding business, the company has since expanded its operations to include large marine engines for oceangoing vessels that are driving the decarbonization of maritime transportation, port cranes that support maritime logistics, as well as a wide range of businesses that underpin various industries and social infrastructure.

Over the course of our 100-year history, society has undergone significant change. Today, the pace of change is accelerating even further, and the very structure of society is on the verge of transformation.
When we speak of times such as these, there is a well-known saying that is often quoted:
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change. “
This is a famous phrase summarizing the ideas of Darwin, known for the theory of evolution--and it applies just as much to companies.
For a company to achieve sustainable growth, it must remain keenly attuned to changes in its environment and continuously evolve itself.
Our decision to change our company name from “Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding” to “MITSUI E&S” is a clear expression of that commitment.
The name E&S stands for Engineering & Services for Evolution & Sustainability, reflecting the significance of our existence of contributing to the achievement of sustainable society through engineering and services.
In line with our corporate philosophy of “We build trust and contribute to society through our engineering and services,”
we continue to take on key social challenges, including:
create a carbon-free society, and
resolve challenges induced by depopulation,
by leveraging green and digital solutions as our core approaches.

At this point, there is one important message I would like all of you to keep in mind.
Technology has value only when it serves people.
Solving social challenges, supporting people’s lives, and making the future a better place—
This is where the true value of the technology we possess lies.

With that in mind, I would like to share three important points that I hope you will keep in mind as you begin your work as members of the MITSUI E&S Group starting today.

The first point is to adopt a mindset of thinking for yourself.
As professionals, there will be many occasions in your daily work where you are required to face various judgments and decisions.
What is important in such moments is not to wait for instructions, but to think independently.
Why are we doing this work?
Is this approach truly the best one?
Is there a better way to do it?
By constantly asking yourself these questions, the quality of your work will change significantly.
The fresh perspectives you bring as younger employees can lead to new insights within the organization.
Please do not hesitate to speak up and share your own ideas.

The second point is to take pride in your work.
Developing a genuine appreciation for the businesses and products you are involved in will become a great source of motivation as you continue your career.
After joining the company, I myself was involved in the material handling machinery business, and when I saw our cranes operating at ports around the world,
I felt a strong sense of pride, realizing that “our work supports global logistics.”

When you understand where and how your work contributes to society, it goes beyond being merely a task and becomes a source of personal pride.
I encourage you to take pride in your work and approach it with genuine enthusiasm and commitment.

The third point is not to be afraid of taking on challenges.
As you go about your work, you will undoubtedly encounter difficulties and obstacles, but it is precisely at such times that opportunities for growth arise.
I encourage you to challenge yourselves with new ideas without being constrained by precedent.
Corporate growth is, after all, the continuous creation of new value.
Your fresh perspectives and proactive mindset will be the driving force behind that growth.

Finally, your journey as working professionals can be likened to a long marathon.
While it is, of course, important to devote your full energy to the tasks at hand, I also encourage you to take good care of your physical and mental health so that you can continue that journey over the long term.
I hope that you will never lose the fresh sense of purpose you feel today, and that you will continue to cherish the bonds you share with your fellow new employees as you grow and develop together.
Your youthful energy and innovative ideas will shape the future of the MITSUI E&S Group.
Let us work hard and move forward together.
