New Year Message by President for 2009 (Summary)
President Katoh

Change the Difficulties into Chances
toward the Hopeful Future

    • Turbulent Days Ahead
Until recently, we have expanded our sales amount and backlog of order supported by a growing world economy and a lower appreciation of Japanese yen.
This favorable atmosphere has changed completely because the world economy plunged into depression.
Hovering prices at high level of material and equipment and a sudden higher appreciation of Japanese yen dampen our business performance for a certain period of time. There are growing concerns about the sales depression and a decreasing of order in the medium run in many business fields of our company.

Although the easing of supply and demand in the market of material and equipment and the bankruptcies of newly-born shipyards may mitigate the adverse circumstance, it is clear that we will face harsh economic conditions for a foreseeable future.

    • What we should do now
What our company should do now are "Enhancement of Productivity" and "Differentiation in Product and Service." at a higher speed than before.
Although we have the backlog of order of about 1.3 trillion yen, there will be no future if we simply handle these works with customary behavior.
We have to improve the working behavior, enhance the productivity and churn out the resource for growth.

    • Change Difficulties into Chances for Advance with High Aspirations
Task of our company is to contribute to the society by supplying to the society useful products and services which are friendly to global environment.
In this respect we will bow to nobody. Every of us will share the same ideal and will get his or her own jobs done with high aspirations. When the vector of the power of all employees is summed up, that will make an enormous energy to change the difficulties into chances for advance opening the way for the future.

    • Trust the Future and Change Difficulties into Chances for Advance
Through our efforts to overcome such difficulties, we must enhance our competitive edge and sustain our development keeping all-out attack mode.
Now we have a low visibility, sea is rough and the wind is adverse. Be sure, however, that we are holding a right course. We will not make a detour by the difficulties. We are required to perform our duty at a higher speed than in the normal days. We have to do our best for enhancing our competitive edge and for being the company to be trusted for bigger roles by the customers and the society.
Your future is not coming to you. You will make your future.

Change the Difficulties into Chances toward the Hopeful Future!
Let us work together and stay the course to the end.
