Delivery of Container Cranes for Port of Sihanoukville, Cambodia
Portainer®

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (President Yasuhiko Katoh) has completed the design, manufacture, transport and commissioning of two (2) units of Quayside Gantry Cranes “Portainer®”, five (5) units of Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes “Transtainer®” and one (1) set of Container Terminal Management System (CTMS) for Port Authority of Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

Port of Sihanoukville has played an important role in Cambodia contributing to its economic growth as the only sea ports located in Cambodia and it handles virtually all cargo shipped via large container vessels. Since Cambodia became a member of ASEAN in 1999, its role as an international port has been getting more important and the container handling volume has been increasing more than expected. However, the cargo handling equipment has become older and the lack of large container handling equipments have prevented more efficient container handling at the Port.

This project is a part of Japanese Official Development Assistance aimed at the efficient container handling at the Port and economic growth of Cambodia through the procurement of materials and services or the construction of the new container terminal.

The “Portainer®” cranes that MES delivered this time are the first Quayside Gantry Cranes in Cambodia and expected to streamline the container handling at the Port. In addition, newly delivered 5 units of “Transtainer®” cranes and CTMS are expected to help the efficient container handling at the container yard.

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) has designed and manufactured container cranes over 40 years since its first supply of “Portainer®” crane to Kobe Port, Japan in 1967. MES has rich supply records, not only of container cranes but also of Container Terminal Management System (CTMS) that is essential for more efficient container handling at container terminal as a total system supplier including after-sales services with total system supply (Crane and CTMS) records in Cambodia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and so on.
