2011 Mid-term Business Plan
Do challenge, make progress for the bright future

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (“MES”) has worked out the 2011 Mid-term Business Plan (“11 Mid-term Plan”) covering fiscal years 2011 to 2013.

In the previous Mid-term Business Plan launched in April 2008, we focused on three main policies, which are “Deepening and development of core/growing businesses”, “Creation of new business” and “Deepening of management foundation”, aiming to sustainable growth of corporate value. As a result, in FY2009, the sales and ordinary profit achieved record high. The financial target in FY2010 set by the 08 Mid-term Business Plan, however, were not accomplished due to sharp downturn in the world economy after financial crisis in 2008.

Meanwhile, we, at our 90th anniversary of foundation in 2007, drew up the centennial anniversary vision, a long term plan which is looking at coming decade. This vision set following two ideal company’s status and they are unchanged until now.

  • MES is known to the world as a credible corporate brand.
  • MES is transformed into one that has a strong business portfolio and thereby contributes to the society.

As it is regarded that 11 Mid-term Plan is the takeoff plan toward “creation of newly-born MES”, the plan is a roadmap to the above mentioned ideal status. We will implement the 11 Mid-term Plan to prepare to win a place in the tough business environment and to strengthen our business foundation for further growth.
We set the following main missions in the plan and we promote them in order to achieve the goals with comprehensive capability and technology of MES group.

1. Expand environment friendly/energy business by exercising integrated power
2. Expand business by developing global market
3. Strengthen product competitive edge to prepare for tough time
4. Strengthen management foundation


Since we are expected to cope with the competitive business environment, we have to challenge the higher objectives and we have to be flexible against the varying business circumstances.
Therefore, we will work toward all stakeholders’ satisfaction and trust with 11 Mid-term Plan under the slogan of “Do challenge, make progress for the bright future”.

1. Consolidated quantitative target (FY2013)
Sales ¥30 billion
Operating Profit ¥25 billion
ROIC* 8%
Interest-Bearing Debt ¥200 billion

*ROIC (return on invested capital): (operating profit + interest receivable and dividend) / (equity capital + interest-bearing debt)
