MESA and Solar Form Business Alliance for Combined Heat & Power and Industrial Power Generation Market
Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (President: Takao Tanaka) announces that its wholly-owned subsidiary in Singapore, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Asia Pte Ltd.(MESA), has signed a cooperation Agreement with Solar Turbines International Company (Solar) to develop Power Generation market in Asia with focus on the combined heat & power (CHP) and industrial power generation markets.
The background behind this cooperation is growing electricity demand in the Asia region. While electricity prices are high in Thailand and other Asian countries, regions with vast gas resources have a need for the development of cogeneration power plants, which produce electricity and steam simultaneously.
In particular, the merits of small- and medium-scale gas turbine cogeneration power plants include that they can be constructed and operations launched in short amount of time, and that the required investment is relatively small when compared to large-scale power plants.
This business cooperation will involve our Group companies conducting engineering, machinery procurement, and local construction and installation (EPC) based on the basic technology and core equipment provided by Solar.
Solar (California, U.S.A.) was founded in 1927 and has delivered some 15,000 gas turbines to more than 100 countries around the world. Solar is the world’s largest manufacturer of small- and medium-scale gas turbines.
MES has developed Gas Turbine in 1954 and completed 135 project by own technology.
In addition, MES has been involved in a business alliance with Solar for the Japanese domestic market since 1996 and the companies already have a history of completing 36 projects.
MES established MESA in October 2013 to accelerate and strengthen global business expansion efforts. MESA offers after services to local customers, LSS (life cycle solution services), and local construction of chemical plants.
We will use this opportunity to aggressively develop CHP sales activities in Singapore and throughout all of Asia.
