Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC) fully owned by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. delivered the biomass plant that had been underway in Brigg, Lincolnshire in the eastern part of England.

The plant uses straw as its fuel source and has a power-generating output of 40MW and expected to power around 70,000 homes and reduce CO2 emissions by 300,000 tons per year. The up to 250,000 tons of straw consumed each year will be procured from local farms.

In 2013, BWSC, together with major Danish pension fund Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Pension Danmark, established BWSC PCL Ltd. (BWSC PCL) as a joint venture to construct, own and operate biomass power plants. An order was placed with BWSC to construct the biomass plant from a special-purpose company established by BWSC PCL, with the completion of construction and handover taking place three months ahead of schedule. Moreover, BWSC has been contracted to provide operation and maintenance services (O&M) for the plant over the next fifteen years.

BWSC undertakes the supply and construction of the complete power plant with diesel engines and biomass technologies and provides Operation and Maintenance services for the lifetime of the plant. BWSC has supplied more than 175 power plants to 53 countries worldwide with a total capacity of more than 3,500 MW.
