MES Concluded EPC Contract for Chemical Plant in Singapore for ExxonMobil Chemical Asia Pacific
Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (MES) announced today that MES has been awarded contracts by ExxonMobil Chemical Asia Pacific to build a plant to produce halobutyl rubber used in tires and a tackifying resin plant for use in premium adhesives. These plants will be among the largest capacity in the world for their products.
The contracts entail detailed design, procurement of material and equipment, and construction of both plants at Jurong Island, Singapore, which will be performed by MES, ECI (*1) and MESA (*2), both wholly owned subsidiaries of MES. The new facilities, scheduled to be completed in 2017, will utilize proprietary ExxonMobil technology.
We believe that MES was selected based on its project experience in Singapore as well as its superior execution capability developed through petrochemical plant engineering for ExxonMobil over the last 30 years.
With the award of this contract, the new order amount of MES Engineering Hq for FY2013 exceeds US$2.5 Billion for the first time on a consolidated basis. “Expansion of the engineering business” is one of the three pillars of MES growth strategy set out in the 2014Mid-term business plan. In line with this plan, MES is ready to further accelerate the growth of its engineering business.
