MITSUI E&S's First LNG-fueled Low-speed Dual fuel Engines for Ferry Delivered

MITSUI E&S Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-Ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takeyuki Takahashi; hereinafter, "MITSUI E&S") has delivered the LNG fueled engine, MITSUI-MAN B&W 12S50ME-C8.5-GI, to Naikai Zosen Corporation (Headquarters: Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Kosaku Hara).
This engine is the first LNG fueled low-speed dual fuel engine for Ferry. The second unit is scheduled to be delivered to the same company in due course. The two units will be installed on a newly built ferry owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. and operated by MOL Sunflower Ltd. from Oarai to Tomakomai.

2-stroke marine engines are highly regarded for their ease of maintenance and fuel efficiency compared to 4-stroke engines, and they have been adopted by many domestic ferries and RORO vessels.1 The newly adopted engine has 12 cylinders, the largest number in the 50 cm piston bore range, and produces a maximum output of 21,240 kW.
The LNG dual fuel engines has been ordered 34 units for ocean-going vessels since the first unit in 2015.

In order to meet the increasing demand for dual fuel engines, MITSUI E&S has been expanding its production facilities2 since the 2022 fiscal year and is building a stable supply system for dual-fueled engines.

We will continue to provide customer-oriented services and sustainably contribute to the realization of a low-carbon and decarbonized society in the field of marine logistics as a marine propulsion system supplier.
