Message from the President for New Employees in 2024 (Summary)
Takeyuki Takahashi, President & CEO and Representative Director of MITSUI E&S Co., Ltd., has delivered his message for all new employees. It is summarized below.
Congratulations to all of the new employees on their joining us.
On behalf of MITSUI E&S, I would like to extend a hearty welcome to you.
Last year, 2023, was the 350th anniversary of the founding of the Mitsui Group. MITSUI E&S was founded in 1917, so this year is the 107th anniversary of the company's founding. 1917 was the 6th year of the Taisho era (1912-1926), so we have come a long way through the Taisho, Showa, Heisei and Reiwa eras.
In the span of 100 years, a century, the external environment changes drastically.
Since its foundation 107 years ago, we have also undergone significant changes in response to the changing times and environment.
We have also changed our company name from Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding to MITSUI E&S. E&S stands for Engineering & Services for Evolution & Sustainability, and represents our purpose, to contribute to the achievement of a sustainable society through our engineering and services.
The environment surrounding us is changing drastically, with global climate change, disasters, pandemics, conflicts and wars in various regions. The current era is particularly volatile and uncertain.
We are faced with a very difficult decision regarding how we develop a business strategy for sustainable growth in the future, but it is precisely in these times that I believe there are business opportunities.
Our mission is, "We build trust and contribute to society through our engineering and services."
By setting our key sustainability issues (material issues), create a decarbonized society and resolve issues of a society with a shrinking population, we aim to take green and digital approaches to solving each of these problems using our technological resources.
In this context, I have said repeatedly since I became president that each and every one of us should think independently with a market-in mindset, adapt to the rapidly changing external environment, and take on the challenge of our own evolution. I believe that our company today is full of exciting opportunities for you to take on a wide variety of challenges.
So, I would like to talk about three points that will prepare you for your future work.
The first point is to improve your communication skills.
Having a wide range of interests and being in contact with many people, both inside and outside the company, will give you the ability to see things from multiple perspectives and lead to your own growth as a person, which in turn will lead to the development of the company.
The second point is to love your own business and products, to be particular about your own work, and to enjoy it. It is extremely important to think about how the business or product you are involved in is contributing to society, and to love your business or products. If you do this, you will enjoy your work.
This will be what motivates you, and you will be particular about your work, which will lead to your personal growth, which in turn will lead to the growth and development of our company. By all means, please love the business and the products that you are in charge of and enjoy your work.
Finally, the third point is to always have a spirit of taking on challenges.
I want you to be a highly ambitious person who has the curiosity to thoroughly pursue the things that interest you, and who continuously strives to overcome obstacles and hurdles in order to achieve this.
Difficult situations are bound to arise in the course of your work. When you encounter a difficult problem, I hope that you will always have the spirit to boldly take on the challenge without giving up, work hard, and somehow find a way to break through.
For the company to continue to grow, it is essential to create new value and enhance the value that we provide.
In today's rapidly changing external environment, only those companies that can respond to these changes will survive. We must constantly change and evolve in response to circumstances.
To this end, as I mentioned earlier, I ask that you improve your communication skills, acquire diverse perspectives, enjoy your work, be persistent in your efforts, and continue to take on new challenges.
I hope that your youthful energy and overflowing energy will contribute to the future evolution and growth of our company. Let's work hard together.
